A senior-level chemical engineering laboratory course was significantly restructured from a traditional “recipe-style” lab to a team-focused problem-based learning (PBL) experience. Students were assessed on their gains in self-efficacy and their thoughts on course contributions to learning. Significant gains in design self-efficacy were documented, along with improved student engagement and reported achievement of all learning objectives.
