Faculty Reading Community (FRC)
Open to all full time faculty, the Faculty Reading Community (FRC) is an opportunity to join Teaching Center staff for sustained cross-disciplinary conversation on critical topics in teaching and learning. Each Faculty Reading Community meeting revolves around a book chapter from the semester’s chosen pedagogy book.
The Faculty Reading Community for Fall 2019 will involve chapters from Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning, which draws on recent discoveries in cognitive psychology and other disciplines and translates these findings into productive, evidence-based “micro” teaching practices that can energize and enhance your teaching, but require little additional preparation and grading.
Participants who commit to attending three of the five sessions will receive a copy of the book and a complimentary box lunch, along with executive summaries of relevant chapters. The Teaching Center provides refreshments and snacks for each meeting.
Advanced registration for this reading community is required and registration is limited.
For questions about the Faculty Reading Community, please contact Dr. Meg Gregory, Assistant Director, The Teaching Center.
