Teaching and Communicating with Students Outside the Classroom
Thursday, October 30th, 2014
4:00 PM - 5:30 PM
This workshop is designed to help TAs learn to navigate the myriad of situations that arise when teaching and communicating with students outside of scheduled class time. Topics include
Designing an effective structure for review sessions or office hours.
Helping students learn to think and to work independently, and
Responding appropriately to the variety of student questions that may arise.
We will also address how to recognize when students may need academic assistance from resources such as Cornerstone, The Writing Center, Residential Life, or Student Health, and how to establish appropriate boundaries for professional interactions with students.
This workshop is offered two times during October (both listed as separate events on this calendar). Each TA should register for one session: October 27 or October 30.
