What can TAs do to facilitate discussions that promote student learning and engagement? This interactive workshop is designed to help new graduate-student TAs learn how to effectively lead discussions. Topics include preparing for and structuring each discussion, fostering full student participation, and composing and asking questions that generate discussion and deepen learning.
Active participation will help participants learn to
Shape the environment to encourage respectful and energetic participation.
Provide a structure that can help students learn during discusions.
Use varied strategies to get all students involved.
