Graduate students who are serving as assistants in instruction for the first time in Fall 2019 or Spring 2020 are required by the Graduate School to attend the full day of this event.
Registration opens at 7:45, with coffee and refreshments served beginning at 8am.
At Graduate Student Mentored Teaching Orientation, graduate students will participate in interactive discussions as well as a Teaching Center Foundations in Teaching (FIT) workshop. Overall, they’ll discover:
Policies related to Title IX, student wellness, emergency preparedness, as well as about how to access other key campus resources.
Effective approaches for creating and maintaining a safe, fair, inclusive learning environment.
Evidence-based teaching strategies on topics central to those serving as an MTE like establishing classroom authority, providing feedback to students, and increasing student participation.
Insights from experienced graduate student MTEs in their discipline.
