Job Market Workshop
Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement
Registration for this workshop is now closed, as the workshop is full. Please note that there are still several openings for the Wednesday morning workshop. If you have immediate need for this workshop, but cannot attend the one on Wednesday, please contact Meg Gregory.
If you are applying for an academic position, it is increasingly likely that you will be asked to submit a teaching philosophy statement during the application process.
As a participant in this Job Market series workshop, you will learn about why academic search committees request teaching materials such as the teaching philosophy statement, and how search committees use these materials to assess candidates’ qualifications for teaching. Further, this workshop will help you navigate the genre of the teaching statement, offering you the opportunity to begin to think about how you will frame your commitment to teaching, and describe your teaching methods and goals to others in your academic field.
