Q: How do I edit the course menu in my Blackboard course?
- Log in to Blackboard at blackboard.wustl.edu.
- Click on the title of your course in the My Courses module.
- From the course page confirm that the Edit Mode in the upper right hand corner is ON.
- The Course Menu is located on the left side of the screen. It is the only menu through which students navigate the course.
- Mouse over the Plus Sign in the upper-left corner of the Course Menu in order to add new links to the Course Menu.
There are several items that can be added to the course menu. The most commonly used items are:
- Content Area: This functions as a “big, empty folder” in which you can upload files, and create Tests and Assignments.
- Tool Link: This will create a link to any Blackboard Tool, including Discussion Boards, Announcements, Calendar, Wikis, and Journals.
- Web Link: This will create a link to an external website.
- Divider: This will create a thin line that can be used to separate the menu into sections.
- An individual menu item can be edited by moving your mouse over the link and clicking the Chevron (Down Arrow) to the right of the link.
- Rename will let you change the text that appears in the menu.
- Hide (or Show) Link will make a link available or unavailable to the students.
- Hidden links are marked with a black line through a white square.
- Permit Guests controls which areas are available to Guest Users in the course. It does not affect the access of normally enrolled students.
- Delete will remove the link and any files within it.
- To reorder the links in the Course Menu, mouse over the link and click the Vertical Up and Down Arrow to the left of the link and drag it up or down to the desired location.
