New Techniques for Teaching Gen Z
A mix of face-to-face and virtual learning could be the best method for teaching today’s students, Vickie S. Cook, an associate professor and executive director of the Center for Online Learning, Research, and Service at the University of Illinois at Springfield, said in a recent story in The Chronicle of Higher Education. The article offers a few tips to instructors to better serve students in Gen Z. The strategies include encouraging students to explore concepts on technology they feel comfortable with, e.g., podcasts, YouTube, and blogs; using virtual and augmented reality to supplement STEM courses; and building flexible learning spaces to encourage group work and maximize underutilized space.
