New Graduate Student Program
September 20, 2017 | Julia Johnson
The Teaching Center is excited to announce the development of a new program, the Exploring Practices in the Classroom (EPIC) Learning Community. The EPIC Learning Community will begin meeting in Spring 2018 and is aimed at graduate students from all disciplines early in their studies at Washington University. If you are interested in participating, please fill out this form to receive email notifications on program updates.
The EPIC Learning Community will begin meeting during the Spring 2018 semester for facilitated discussions on best practices in teaching, current research on teaching, and the creation of Teaching Development Plans (TDPs). TDPs are a tool for graduate students to identify, set, and attain professional goals related to teaching. Furthermore, this program will provide a space for graduate students early in their studies to discuss evidence-based pedagogy and engage with peers in a wide array of disciplines. This program will serve as an introduction to the research and concepts further discussed in WU-CIRTL, the Teaching Citation and the Preparation in Pedagogy professional-development programs.
This program is supported by an Improving Undergraduate STEM Education (IUSE) National Science Foundation Award through the CIRTL Network, a consortium of institutions that Washington University has been a member of since 2012. The purpose of both the award and the consortium is to increase student diversity in STEM by introducing future faculty to effective evidence-based classroom strategies. This program is being developed in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
If you are a graduate student who is interested in participating, please fill out this form to receive email notifications on program updates.
If you have any further questions about this program please contact Julia Johnson, PhD, Assistant Director of Academic Services.
