Register for Summer 2017 POGIL Workshop
March 24, 2017 | Teaching Center Staff
Looking for ways to enliven your teaching approaches? Who needs the beach? July is time for POGILing!
With the view that “knowledge is personal,” POGIL takes a student-centered, team-based, active-learning approach in which key concepts and process skills (such as collaboration and critical thinking) are taught through interaction and discovery.
POGIL has changed their course structure for this coming summer. In the past, they offered tracks based on your experience level with POGIL. This year they are offering themed tracks where participants of any experience level can focus their attention on a particular aspect of POGIL: Activity Writing, Classroom Facilitation or Implementing POGIL in a Laboratory setting.
On the first day of the workshop, those who are new to POGIL will attend a Fundamentals of POGIL session while those participants who have previously attended a POGIL workshop will attend two new sessions of universal application. The start of the second day will expose all participants to POGIL activity structure and facilitation in a POGIL classroom. For the remainder of the workshop, participants will follow a series of sessions focused on their chosen interest area – Activity Writing, Classroom Facilitation, or Implementing POGIL in the Lab.
The workshops will take place throughout July in various locations around the country. To find out more about this program’s sessions and schedule, and to register, please see POGIL.org.
To learn more about POGIL from the founder, Rick Moog, please see this earlier post, which contains a recent lecture for the WashU community.
