PLTL at Washington University began in 2001 as a pilot project funded and supported by the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences. The Dean’s leadership was instrumental in helping Gina Frey, the principal architect of PLTL at Washington University, to enlist the support of the faculty in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Throughout the implementation of PLTL, faculty involvement has been essential to the program’s success.
In 2002-2003, support for Peer Leaders in General Chemistry was provided by the College of Arts & Sciences and a Workshop Project Associate Grant from The PLTL Workshop Project (sponsored by The National Science Foundation). Currently, the Departments of Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics support the participating faculty, and Cornerstone: The Center for Advanced Learning supports all of the Peer Leaders.
A grant from the National Science Foundation has provided support for the research project, “An Analysis of Discourse in Peer-Led Team Learning.”
