Chem 465: Solid State and Materials Chemistry is a course for advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students in chemistry and engineering. These pages describe the portion of the course in which flexible technology is used.
The pairing of the SMART Board with tablet PCs allows students to use computer-modeling software, now a routine tool in industry and research laboratories, to visualize and investigate complex solid-state structures. The in-class use of the software on the SMART Board and tablet PCs helps to improve the students’ conceptual understanding of solid-state structures and of the essential relationship between a material’s structure and its properties. This understanding of the relationship between a structure and its properties is integral to many topics in science.
Students are engaged through the instructor’s interactive, flexible lecture style that incorporates problem solving.
