Faculty Consultations

Personal Appointments
The director of The Teaching Center is available to meet with faculty members to discuss ways to improve their teaching effectiveness, whether by refining their current approaches or by incorporating new strategies and methods.

Topics may include the following:

  • Integrating different teaching methods
  • Integrating multiple approaches to accommodate variations in learning style
  • Incorporating writing
  • Grading and grading policies
  • Increasing student participation or improving class discussion
  • Incorporating group work
  • Using instructional technology effectively

Class Visits
The director will visit a class to observe a requesting faculty member’s teaching. After observing the class, the director will meet with the faculty member to discuss potential changes and improvements.

Videotaping of Class Sessions
The Teaching Center can also videotape a class when requested by the faculty member. The director will review the tape, then replay and discuss the tape with the faculty member during a pre-arranged appointment.

All consulting sessions are confidential. Videotapes become the property of the faculty member.
