While as instructors we hope to engage student learners, facilitating a real discussion in the classroom is one of the most challenging aspects of teaching with active learning. In this workshop, participants will examine strategies for structuring a successful discussion and consider ways to move beyond instructor-student-instructor patterns of response. Participants will also review a variety of question types and discussion structures that are likely to spur different kinds of productive learning and engagement.
Facilitator: Dr. Meg Gregory, Assistant Director, Academic Services, The Teaching Center
