Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement
If you are applying for an academic position, it is increasingly likely that you will be asked to submit a teaching philosophy statement during the application process.
As a participant in this Professional Development in Teaching series workshop, you will learn about why academic search committees request teaching materials such as the teaching philosophy statement, and how search committees use these materials to assess candidates’ qualifications for teaching. Further, this workshop will help you navigate the genre of the teaching statement, offering you the opportunity to begin to think about how you will frame your commitment to teaching, and describe your teaching methods and goals to others in your academic field.
Once you’ve taken this workshop, you will be eligible to participate in the Teaching Center’s Jump-Start guided writing group.
Facilitator: Meg Gregory, PhD, Assistant Director, The Teaching Center
Registration for this workshop will be limited to the first 20 applicants. Contact Dr. Megan Gregory, Assistant Director of Academic Services, The Teaching Center with questions.
