While the classroom can be a space for open, respectful discussion of sensitive or controversial topics, facilitating such discussions can be a challenging prospect. This advanced-level workshop for graduate students and postdocs in the humanities, arts, and social sciences will provide the opportunity to develop strategies for fostering critical thinking, open-mindedness, and civil discourse in the classroom.

Establishing ground-rules for respectful dialogue and debate in the classroom
Developing facilitation strategies that encourage the class to understand and value diverse perspectives
Effectively managing and responding to intense disagreement or microaggressions in the classroom
