Jump-Start Program on Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement

Washington University graduate students and postdocs are invited to participate in The Teaching Center’s Jump-Start Program on Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement (TPS). The program combines instruction in writing a statement with the opportunity to participate in small, peer-review writing groups, and the structure to write and revise 2-3 drafts of the TPS over a 4-week period. Participants will be required to attend 2 seminar meetings as well as 2 writing-group meetings.

Preparing to apply for faculty positions
Able to invest time this fall in a peer-review process that can help produce an improved Teaching Philosophy Statement
Interested in gathering, utilizing, and contributing peer feedback during the process of writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement
Looking to fulfill the Teaching Philosophy Statement requirement for one of The Teaching Center’s professional development programs
Facilitated by Michelle Repice, PhD, Assistant Director, The Teaching Center and Emily Cohen-Shikora, Program Manager, SoTL Fellowship Program, The Teaching Center.
Prerequisite: Before participating in the Jump-Start program, all participants will need to attend the Teaching Center’s workshop on Writing a Teaching Philosophy Statement. If you have not attended this workshop in the past, one will be offered on both the Medical and Danforth campuses the week of September 1st, just before the Jump-Start program begins.
