Create an Item to Hold Files and Content

Q: How do I create an Item (content that can hold text, videos, images, etc.)?
- Log in to Blackboard at blackboard.wustl.edu.
- Click on the title of your course in the My Courses module.
- Navigate to the location that you would like to place the item by clicking on the link in the Course Menu on the left side of the screen. For example, select the link titled Course Documents.
- Navigate to the Action Bar. It appears to the right of the Course Menu. If you do not see the Action Bar, look to the top right of the window to ensure that you have Edit Mode turned ON.
- Hover over the section titled Build Content and select Item.
- A new page will appear, titled Create Item. As pictured below, enter the Name for the item under Content Information.
- After entering a Name, add any expository information in the Text Editor.
- It the next section titled Attachments, click on Browse My Computer to add a file from your computer. Alternatively, click Browse Content Collection to add a file that already exists within a Content Collection in Blackboard. Continue attaching files that cover the multiple types of content you would like to include in the parent item.
- Edit the options to suit your preferences.
- To permit users to view the content, select Yes.
- If you want to track the number of times the content is viewed, select Yes.
- If you want content to display the link on a certain day or for a limited amount of time, modify the Enter Date and Time Restrictions fields. Select the Display After and Display Until check boxes to enable the date and time selections.
