The Teaching Center develops Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) projects that are designed to improve teaching and learning at Washington University. These projects are developed in collaboration with faculty and with other University centers, such as Cornerstone and the Institute for School Partnership. Many of these projects are supported in part by external funding.

Gina Frey (Executive Director) works with Beth Fisher (Director of Academic Services) and the entire Academic Services staff to develop and disseminate The Teaching Center's scholarship on specific pedagogical methods and approaches. This aspect of The Teaching Center's mission includes working with faculty to design, implement, and study new teaching methods that are informed by recent research on teaching and learning.

The Teaching Center also provides consultation services to help faculty who are designing and conducting pedagogical research. The Teaching Center also supports scholarship of teaching and learning through faculty discussion groups, such as the STEM Education Research Group.
